Toby Alderweireld discusses boundaries with intrusive fans
Former professional footballer Toby Alderweireld has spoken out about the challenges of his increased visibility as a television personality. Following his retirement from professional football, the former Belgian national team player has appeared in various programs such as ‘De Slimste Mens’, ‘The Masked Singer’, and ‘De Verraders’, while also working as a football analyst for VTM and the BBC.
Alderweireld noted that his popularity has led to uncomfortable encounters with intrusive fans, particularly female fans. He described instances where individuals have been overly aggressive or physically forward, especially in social settings involving alcohol. He expressed that while he values being liked by the public, he finds it difficult to navigate these situations and occasionally has to be firm to set boundaries. He also mentioned that his wife observes his discomfort during these interactions.
