Toby Alderweireld transitions to media and film roles

Former professional footballer Toby Alderweireld is transitioning into new media roles following his retirement. He will join the BBC for the program ‘Match of the Day’, where he expressed gratitude for his formative years at Ajax, noting how the club’s environment helped shape his professional character.

Reflecting on his defensive training, Alderweireld suggested that Dutch youth academies often prioritize ball possession and long passing over fundamental defensive positioning. He noted that his own development relied heavily on learning to use his intelligence and body positioning to compensate for a lack of natural speed.

In addition to his media work, Alderweireld is making his film debut in the Belgian action movie ‘Paradise’, directed by Bob Colaers. He will appear in a cameo role as a prison guard. The film is scheduled for release in Belgian cinemas later this month.
