Toby Greene to join Geelong from GWS Giants
Greater Western Sydney (GWS) Giants captain Toby Greene has confirmed his intention to join the Geelong Football Club, citing a desire to move back to Victoria for family reasons. The decision marks a major shift for the Giants, who have already parted ways with veteran forwards Jesse Hogan and Jake Stringer.
Outgoing GWS CEO Dave Matthews announced the decision, noting that while the club is undergoing a reset, it is not a full rebuild. The Giants are also facing potential departures of Lachie Whitfield and Harry Himmelberg. Meanwhile, Geelong executive general manager of football Andrew Mackie expressed excitement about helping Greene “write the next chapter of his career.”
Reports indicate Geelong has offered Greene a three-year contract valued at approximately $3 million. The move is seen as a significant recruitment success for Geelong, a club noted for its ability to attract elite talent while maintaining stability and staying within the salary cap.
