Tocantins Electoral Court orders removal of false content against candidate Dorinha

The Electoral Court of Tocantins (TRE-TO) has ordered the immediate removal of false content circulated on WhatsApp targeting Tocantins gubernatorial candidate Professora Dorinha. The posts falsely claimed the candidate had a criminal conviction and was ineligible to hold office, omitting the fact that she had been acquitted by the Supreme Federal Court (STF).

Judge Silvana Maria Parfieniuk ruled that the material disseminated “knowingly untrue” information that exceeded the limits of political criticism and could interfere with voter opinion during the election campaign. The individual identified as responsible for the posts, Manoel Ferreira Fontinele, must remove the content within 12 hours or face a daily fine of R$ 5,000, capped at R$ 20,000.

Additionally, the court ordered WhatsApp to provide registration data and access logs for the number used to spread the messages within 48 hours to assist in identifying the responsible parties.
