Nova Olinda do Maranhão to hold supplementary election

The Regional Electoral Court of Maranhão (TRE-MA) has scheduled a supplementary election for December 6, 2026, in Nova Olinda do Maranhão. This follows the revocation of the mandates of Mayor Ary Menezes Fernandes and Vice-Mayor Ronildo Costa de Carvalho, who were elected in 2024 but were removed due to economic power abuse and vote buying.

The new election will determine the leaders for the remainder of the term ending December 31, 2028. Party conventions are set for late September and early October, with candidate registration closing on October 17. Notably, the resolution prohibits those responsible for the 2024 election's nullity from participating in this new vote.

In other political developments, Cíntia Dias (PSOL) secured a new injunction against Gustavo Gayer's (PL) campaign for exceeding limits on the use of third-party images in electoral broadcasts. Meanwhile, in Tocantins, several electoral polls are expected to update the race for the state government and Senate seats, and Senator Eduardo Gomes held a rally in Gurupi to support local candidates and criticize opponents.
