Tocantins Public Ministry demands more dialysis vacancies in Gurupi

The Public Ministry of Tocantins (MPTO) has issued a recommendation to the state government to address a shortage of dialysis vacancies in Gurupi. Renal patients who have been medically cleared for discharge are remaining hospitalized at the Hospital Regional de Gurupi (HRG) because they cannot secure outpatient dialysis slots.

Prosecutor Marcelo Lima Nunes highlighted that this prolonged hospitalization increases health risks for patients and occupies hospital beds needed by others. The MPTO has also forwarded information regarding patient deaths to the criminal prosecutor's office to investigate potential criminal responsibility.

The recommendation includes several urgent measures:

• The state must complete the implementation of a fourth night shift for dialysis at Fundação Pró-Rim within 15 business days to create 40 new weekly vacancies. • At least one new hemodialysis machine must be delivered and installed at HRG within 10 days. • An emergency plan for the dehospitalization of clinically stable renal patients must be developed within five days.
