Tochigi City to use artist's works to preserve local history

During a regular session of the Tochigi City Council, municipal officials announced plans to utilize the printmaking works of artist Ichiro Oguchi to preserve local history. The initiative aims to commemorate the history of the former Yanaka Village residents who migrated to Saroma, Hokkaido, following the Ashio Copper Mine pollution incident.

To mark the 115th anniversary of this migration, the city intends to collaborate with relevant organizations to use Oguchi’s art for educational and promotional purposes. Additionally, the city plans to hold a symposium in February next year at the Saiho Castle Ruins to highlight the area's historical significance.
