Tocht om de Noord walking festival celebrates 20th anniversary in Oldambt

The 20th anniversary of the Tocht om de Noord walking festival commenced in the Oldambt region, starting from De Toekomst in Scheemda. This jubilee edition is themed ‘Adem de Graanrepubliek’ (Breathe the Grain Republic), focusing on the sensory experience of smell to connect participants with the local landscape, history, and culture.

Thousands of walkers participated in the first day, choosing between distances of 15, 25, or 40 kilometers. The routes passed through various notable locations, including churches, village houses, and farms, as well as the Groninger Genever Stokerij in Oostwold. The event, which has grown from a single-day walk in 2005 to a two-day festival, saw its 6,000 available tickets sell out shortly after registration opened.
