Tocoma Hydroelectric Plant completion to create up to 2,000 jobs

The completion of the Tocoma Hydroelectric Plant (Manuel Piar) in Bolívar State is projected to generate up to 2,000 jobs, according to Argenis Moreno, president of the Bolivarian Union of Construction and Heavy Machinery Workers. Initial phases are expected to create between 800 and 1,000 permanent positions, with numbers potentially rising as the project progresses.

While civil works are reported to be 90% complete, the electromechanical systems have not yet begun work. Consequently, the estimated timeline for full completion is approximately five years.

The Venezuelan government has signed a contract addendum with the Argentine company IMPSA to complete the Tocoma plant and modernize the Macagua Hydroelectric Plant. The long-term master plan for both facilities aims to reach a capacity of 2,640 MW, making it one of the largest hydroelectric projects in Latin America.
