Panama advances logistics through Canal slots, air cargo pact, and transit affiliation
Panama is advancing several key logistics and infrastructure initiatives. The Panama Canal has announced a new phase of its Long-term Slot Allocation (LoTSA) program for the period of January 3 to April 3, 2027. This phase will continue in the Neopanamax locks and, for the first time, introduce a pilot program for the Panamax locks to provide customers with greater transit predictability during the dry season.
In the aviation sector, Tocumen International Airport and Singapore-based SATS have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen air cargo connectivity between Asia and the Americas. The agreement aims to explore development opportunities within Tocumen Cargo City to support growing commercial flows.
Additionally, Metro de Panamá has officially joined the International Association of Public Transport (UITP). This two-year membership, supported by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), is intended to facilitate the exchange of international expertise and best practices in sustainable urban mobility and technology.
