Todd Beamer High School football cancels remainder of varsity season

Todd Beamer High School has decided to cancel the remainder of its 3A varsity football regular season. The decision was made collectively by head coach Rodney McCurry, athletic director Amber Plummer, and Federal Way Director of Equity and Athletics John Yellam.

According to McCurry, the program has faced significant injuries and a lack of cohesion. The Federal Way School District stated the decision was evaluated to best support the physical health of the team. To continue playing, the Titans plan to move to a custom schedule, which may include playing lower-classification 1A or 2A varsity teams or high-level junior varsity programs.

The season has been marked by administrative challenges, including a five-game suspension for McCurry that was later overruled due to errors within the Final Forms eligibility system. McCurry noted that the issues involving the eligibility center could have potentially been avoided if addressed earlier in the season.
