Todd McCabe charged in $18K jewelry theft and assault

Todd McCabe, 51, of Worcester, has been charged with unarmed robbery, assault and battery, and assault with a dangerous weapon following a theft at the Auburn Mall in Massachusetts.

On September 14, McCabe allegedly stole an $18,000 gold necklace from Hannoush Jewelers. During the incident, he reportedly elbowed a female employee in the face as he fled the store. The suspect then entered a yellow taxi cab to make his escape. According to police, the taxi driver was unaware of the crime until the store manager began chasing the suspect. When the driver questioned McCabe, the suspect allegedly threatened him with a firearm, prompting the driver to continue moving.

Auburn police located the taxi within five minutes of the initial 911 call. Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop and arrested McCabe without incident, successfully recovering the stolen necklace. The employee involved sustained minor injuries. McCabe was arraigned at Worcester District Court on September 15 and remains held following a dangerousness hearing.
