Todd Russell, Beaconsfield mine survivor, announces end of medical treatment

Todd Russell, a survivor of the 2006 Beaconsfield mine collapse in northern Tasmania, has announced he will spend his remaining days at home with family and friends. The 54-year-old stated that after years of health battles, medical and physical options have been exhausted.

Mr. Russell gained international attention in 2006 when he and co-worker Brant Webb were rescued after being trapped nearly one kilometre underground for two weeks. The mine collapse resulted in the death of miner Larry Knight.

Following an eight-and-a-half-month hospital stay for an undisclosed illness, Mr. Russell expressed emotional exhaustion on social media, noting that he has no more fight left. He expressed gratitude to the staff at Launceston General Hospital for their support during his difficult journey.
