The trend draws inspiration from 1990s fashion icons and is being popularized by modern figures such as Jennifer Lawrence, Sasha Obama, and Addison Rae. Contemporary styling differs from the original era through more intentional coordination, including stacking rings on multiple toes and utilizing sculptural shapes.

Popular aesthetic combinations include pairing chrome or metallic polishes with silver bands, matching French tips with delicate gold bands, and coordinating butter yellow polish with chunky gold rings. Experts note that metallic and shimmer polishes may be practical choices as they tend to hold onto the nail longer.
