Toei Animation partners with Nigerian studio CR motion+

Toei Animation has announced its first collaborative animation project with an African studio, partnering with the Nigerian company CR motion+. The project, titled ‘The Storyteller ~dawn of legend~’ (working title), is an original spin-off based on the Webtoon ‘Trials of the Spear’ by Comic Republic.

Set in modern-day Lagos, the story follows a resurrected spirit named Akalibere who attempts to share the legends of the hero Dayo Dalao, only to face indifference and hardship in the bustling metropolis.

Under the production agreement, Toei Animation will handle pre-production and production management, while the main production will be carried out by the staff at CR motion+. The approximately 20-minute animated work is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2027, with plans to submit the piece to international film festivals to evaluate its global market value.
