Tofana di Dentro landslide affects Val Travenanzes area
A large-scale landslide occurred on the afternoon of Sunday, October 4, 2026, from the northern walls of Tofana di Dentro. The event is believed to have affected the Val Travenanzes area, which contains several hiking trails.
The landslide generated a massive, prolonged cloud of dust that initially prevented rescue helicopters from approaching the site to conduct safety checks. During the incident, a Suem helicopter was finishing the rescue of a 52-year-old woman who had suffered a knee injury on Tofana di Rozes. After transporting the woman to Codivilla hospital, the helicopter transported two Guardia di Finanza rescuers to survey the area.
By 7:45 PM, visibility had improved, allowing the Venice helicopter unit to conduct an aerial reconnaissance with the Drago helicopter. While continuous material discharge was observed, authorities have currently ruled out the possibility of people being involved in the landslide. For safety reasons, the local mayor has ordered the closure of the affected area.
