British Columbia municipalities prepare for 2026 local elections

Several British Columbia municipalities are preparing for the 2026 general local elections. In West Kelowna, nomination packages are now available for those seeking to run for mayor, council, or school trustee. Candidates must be Canadian citizens, at least 18 years old, and residents of British Columbia for at least six months. The election is scheduled for October 17.

In Parksville, nominations for mayor and council will be accepted from September 1 to September 11, 2026. Eligible candidates must meet standard provincial qualifications, including citizenship and residency requirements.

In Tofino, officials have issued notices regarding advance elector registration. Resident electors wishing to be added to the Provincial Voters List must apply through Elections BC by August 25, 2026. Non-resident property electors may also register in advance at the Tofino Municipal Office until August 25.
