TOGG electric vehicle begins service as taxi in Izmir

The first TOGG electric vehicle has officially entered service as a commercial taxi in Izmir, Turkey. Operating from the Behçet Uz Children's Hospital Taxi Stand, the vehicle marks the first time the domestic electric automobile has been utilized for public transportation in the city.

Erkan Özkan, President of the Izmir Drivers and Automobile Tradesmen Chamber, expressed satisfaction with the development but emphasized the need for further expansion. He renewed a call for government support, specifically requesting exemptions from Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) and Value Added Tax (KDV) for taxi operators to facilitate the transition to domestic electric vehicles.

Özkan noted that with approximately 150,000 taxis operating across Turkey, widespread adoption of TOGG could serve as a massive promotional tool. He highlighted that tourists arriving at airports and ports would encounter the domestic brand during their travels, providing significant international exposure for the Turkish automotive industry.
