Togo advances economic development through energy and finance initiatives
Togo is pursuing multiple economic and energy initiatives to bolster national development and financial stability. A government delegation is attending the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok to secure funding for key priorities, including digital transformation, climate finance, and debt management. The World Bank currently maintains a $1.49 billion portfolio in the country, supporting sectors such as agriculture, energy, and health.
In the energy sector, Togo has announced plans for a solar power plant at the Nangbéto site with a capacity between 70 and 110 MWc. This project is part of a broader national goal to develop 400 MWc of solar capacity and will involve public consultations in Lomé to discuss technical and contractual frameworks.
Financially, the Togolese Treasury is working to meet its annual funding targets through the regional public securities market. The government aims to raise 80 billion FCFA in the final quarter of 2026 via Treasury bonds and bills. However, as of August 2026, the country had mobilized 285 billion FCFA, leaving a projected gap of 98.5 billion FCFA relative to its annual target of 463.5 billion FCFA.
