Togo and Huawei sign partnership to modernize key infrastructure

Togo has signed a memorandum of understanding with Huawei to accelerate the modernization of its national infrastructure. The agreement was finalized in Shenzhen on October 16, 2026, during an official visit by President Faure Gnassingbé to the Chinese technology group’s headquarters.

The partnership focuses on three priority sectors: energy infrastructure, intelligent transport systems, and the digitalization of customs procedures. In the energy sector, digital solutions aim to improve grid management and installation monitoring. For transportation, the focus is on optimizing traffic flow and management. The digitalization of customs is intended to simplify operations and improve data circulation between services.

A key component of the agreement is the transfer of technology and the development of local expertise. This aims to ensure that Togolese professionals can master and maintain the new technologies. The initiative aligns with Togo’s 2026–2031 government roadmap and follows a joint declaration between Togo and China regarding digital sovereignty.
