Togo and United Arab Emirates sign diplomatic visa exemption agreement
Togo and the United Arab Emirates have signed a bilateral agreement to eliminate visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports. The agreement, announced by Togolese Foreign Minister Robert Dussey on September 25, 2026, aims to facilitate official travel and strengthen institutional dialogue between Lomé and Abu Dhabi.
The measure is intended to reduce administrative barriers for state representatives and high-ranking officials, allowing for more rapid consultations and mission-related travel. Beyond improving mobility, the agreement serves as a strategic tool to accelerate cooperation in key sectors such as investment, logistics, and infrastructure.
This agreement applies exclusively to diplomatic passport holders and does not extend visa exemptions to holders of ordinary passports. The signing took place on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
