Togo celebrates regional heritage through Dunenyo Zã and Odon-Itsu festivals

Various traditional festivals were recently held in Togo to celebrate regional heritage and promote social cohesion.

In Grand Lomé, the 8th edition of Dunenyo Zã took place on August 15, 2026. Organized by the Aflao community, the event brought together the Aflao, Bè, and Agoè-Nyivé communities to celebrate Ewe culture. The festival focused on the role of women and youth in sustainable development and included an Ewe language writing and reading competition to encourage linguistic transmission among younger generations.

In the Grand Ogou region, the 53rd edition of the Odon-Itsu festival was celebrated in Atakpamé. Dedicated to the yam, this traditional festival of the Ifè people emphasizes solidarity and food sovereignty. The event included blessings for the first yams and tributes to ancestors and agricultural producers, aiming to pass down traditional rites and values of resilience to the youth.
