Togo expands international trade through digital training and new partnerships

Togo is implementing several strategies to enhance its international trade presence and market access. A delegation of 35 public and private sector representatives is currently in Beijing for a seminar on cross-border e-commerce. This initiative, supported by the Ministry of Commerce and Quality Control, aims to leverage the Chinese model of digital commerce to help Togolese businesses master international regulations, payments, logistics, and order management.

Simultaneously, the Togo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI-Togo) is working to strengthen bilateral ties with Senegal and Egypt. CCI-Togo President José Kwassi Symenouh met with ambassadors from both nations to discuss trade facilitation. Efforts with Senegal focus on utilizing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to improve market access and resolve border crossing difficulties. Regarding Egypt, discussions aim to address a significant trade imbalance—where Togo imported $30.29 million in goods in 2025 but exported only $302,000—by exploring cooperation in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, technology, and construction.
