Togo humanitarian groups provide flood relief and anticipatory aid
Humanitarian organizations are implementing proactive aid strategies in Togo to mitigate the impact of flooding. In the Vo Prefecture, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and OCDI Caritas Togo provided financial assistance to 314 households on September 17 and 18, 2026. This support, part of the Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Project (PAHU), aims to help families in various localities—including Légbanou, Hangbakoè, and Atapé—meet essential needs following heavy rains in June.
Complementing these efforts, the REBUMAA project is utilizing an anticipatory model to provide aid before disasters strike. Since 2024, this initiative has focused on reducing vulnerability by providing 50,000 FCFA per household through anticipatory cash transfers. By distributing funds when flood risks are forecasted rather than after damage has occurred, the project allows families to secure assets and prepare in advance. The project has targeted 5,000 households across the Maritime, Plateaux, and Kara regions, benefiting approximately 30,000 people directly.
