Togo implements administrative and civil registry reforms

Togo is implementing significant administrative reforms aimed at modernizing its public sector and legal frameworks. Under the direction of President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, the government has intensified disciplinary measures within the civil service. These actions include staff dismissals based on the General Statute of the Civil Service to combat irregularities and ensure administrative reliability. To underscore this priority, the Ministry of Civil Service has been attached directly to the Presidency of the Council.

Simultaneously, the government has launched a process to modernize the country’s civil registry laws. The current legislation, in effect since 2009, is being reviewed to account for recent developments such as decentralization and the digitalization of public services. Led by the Ministry of Territorial Administration, this reform seeks to improve the accessibility and reliability of civil status services through digital interoperability and enhanced service quality.
