Togo launches school kit distribution for 150,000 girls

Togo has launched the second edition of a national campaign to distribute school kits to over 150,000 girls across 1,500 localities. The initiative aims to support students from primary to high school levels, specifically targeting vulnerable communities and rural areas to reduce economic barriers to education and encourage female enrollment.

The program is part of the Women’s Empowerment and Demographic Dividend Plus (SWEDD+) project, which receives financial support from the World Bank and technical assistance from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). For Togo, the project is supported by a $62.5 million allocation from a larger $365 million regional fund.

In addition to standard supplies, the campaign recognizes academic excellence by awarding top-performing girls with specialized kits, including bags equipped with solar panels and lighting. The campaign was officially launched in Blitta by Dr. Sandra Ablamba Johnson, Minister and Secretary General of the Presidency, alongside other government officials.
