Togo launches shea butter campaign and local consumption month
Togo has officially launched several initiatives aimed at boosting domestic production and economic sovereignty. In Kara, the 2026-2027 shea butter marketing campaign commenced with a new agreement signed by the Interprofessional Shea Sector Council (CIFKAT). The agreement establishes a minimum purchase price of 300 FCFA per kilogram at the farm gate and implements a moratorium to ensure local processors have priority access to the estimated 45,000 tonnes of annual raw nut production before surplus is exported.
Simultaneously, the 7th edition of the UEMOA Month of Local Consumption was launched in Lomé by the Minister of Economy and Strategic Vigilance, Babanam Patoki. Running through October 31, 2026, the campaign focuses on regional integration and reducing import dependency by supporting West African-made products. The initiative includes training workshops, business visits, and exhibitions designed to assist small and medium-sized enterprises in the agri-food, artisanal, and service sectors.
