Togo modernizes science education and reforms teacher certification

Togo is implementing significant changes to its national education system through technological upgrades and regulatory reforms. Minister of National Education Mama Omorou has overseen the distribution of 104 interactive smart boards and new laboratory equipment to scientific middle and high schools. These tools, which include access to digital pedagogical resources and scientific simulators, are intended to bridge the gap between theoretical instruction and practical experimentation.

Simultaneously, the Ministry has issued a decree abolishing the Certificate of Pedagogical Aptitude (CAP) exams for the first and second degrees, ending a regulatory framework that had been in place since 1978. While the exams are being removed, transitional provisions allow certain categories of teachers to continue participating. This includes holders of the Elementary Certificate of Pedagogical Aptitude (CEAP) at the first degree, and specific secondary subject teachers in fields such as physical education, music, and home economics, provided they hold equivalent qualifications.
