Togo National Assembly adopts nuclear and agricultural laws

The Togolese National Assembly has passed three strategic bills in a first reading aimed at securing the country’s civil nuclear program. These legislative measures facilitate Togo’s accession to international conventions regarding nuclear safety, civil liability, and the compensation of victims in the event of nuclear damage. Specifically, the laws address the physical protection of nuclear materials during use, storage, and transport to prevent criminal acts and terrorism.

In a separate legislative move, deputies also adopted an agricultural orientation bill in its first reading. This law seeks to modernize the agricultural sector and strengthen national food sovereignty. Key provisions include improving crop yields, facilitating access to financing and markets for producers, and encouraging local crop processing to increase value addition. The bill also focuses on mechanization, irrigation, sustainable resource management, and climate change adaptation.
