Togo plans new agency for professional certification
The Togolese government is considering the creation of a dedicated agency to oversee professional certifications. The project was reviewed during a Council of Ministers meeting on October 22, 2026.
The proposed agency aims to improve the reliability, transparency, and recognition of professional skills within the labor market. By establishing a clearer framework, the initiative seeks to better align worker qualifications with the evolving needs of businesses. This system is intended to benefit both employees and employers: workers, including those who have gained skills through experience rather than formal schooling, can better validate their expertise, while employers gain a more dependable method for evaluating candidates.
While the project has passed initial government examination, specific operational details are still being determined. These include whether the agency will issue titles directly or work through specialized organizations, which sectors will be covered, and the exact procedures for evaluating skills acquired outside of traditional academic settings.
