Togo promotes new African map at UN amid spending scrutiny

Togo has spearheaded a diplomatic initiative at the United Nations to promote a new map of Africa that reflects the continent's true dimensions. The project, which aims to correct historical cartographic distortions, reportedly received support from 164 UN member states during the General Assembly.

However, the initiative has drawn scrutiny regarding the use of public funds. Reports indicate that approximately $2 million USD was spent on the campaign. These expenditures included contracts with strategic communication and lobbying firms in Paris and Washington D.C., as well as travel and accommodation expenses for Foreign Minister Robert Dussey and his delegations during international missions to cities such as New York, Paris, and Geneva.
