Togo to provide free nationality certificates to 4,200 female students

The Togolese government has launched a campaign to provide free nationality certificates to 4,200 female students across the country’s seven educational regions. The initiative is a joint effort between the Ministry of Solidarity, Gender, Family and Child Protection and the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights.

Already underway in the Grand Lomé area, the program has provided documents to 300 senior high school students. The campaign aims to secure the academic and professional futures of these young women by ensuring they possess the essential documentation required for national exams, university enrollment, formal employment, identity cards, and opening bank accounts.

This effort aligns with broader government policies to modernize and simplify public services. Since the launch of a dedicated digital platform for nationality certificates in 2024, 241,617 applications have been recorded, with 179,690 successfully processed. Despite this progress, authorities noted ongoing challenges regarding the delivery of supplementary documents from certain prefectures and the notification process for applicants.
