Togo's Boko and Anfoin Bridges Closed, Racket Puts Users at Risk

Heavy rains on 29 June 2026 damaged the Boko bridge in the Vo prefecture and the Anfoin bridge in the Lacs prefecture on the Lomé‑Vogan‑Anfoin road. A technical assessment by the Togo Ministry of Public Works deemed the structures fragile, restricting use to pedestrians and two‑wheelers and banning light vehicles, heavy trucks and public transport. A detour via Vogan – Agnron Copé – Glidji was established to maintain traffic flow.

Despite the ban, local reports describe racketeers, allegedly aided by some police personnel, allowing vehicles to cross for a fee. The illegal passage has been linked to a meeting organized in Vogan by the Cadre National de Concertation pour le Changement (CNCC). Authorities have called for urgent reinforcement work on the bridges to prevent further danger to road users.
