Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen to launch luxury Supreme Class cabins

The Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines will introduce ‘Supreme Class,’ a new top-tier service exceeding the current Green Car standard, starting October 1, 2026. This marks the return of private cabin seating to these lines for the first time in 23 years.

The service features two types of private cabins: a two-person cabin in Car 7, which includes a single seat and a facing sofa, and a single-occupancy cabin in Car 10. These cabins are equipped with electronic locks accessible via IC cards or QR codes, providing a fully private environment suitable for work or rest. Amenities include seats that recline up to 130 degrees, leg rests, lumbar support, seat heaters, and in-room tablets to control lighting, temperature, and audio.

Connectivity is enhanced through dedicated 5G-compatible Wi-Fi. Passengers can also order limited-edition beverages and snacks via the cabin tablets. Reservations are available through Express Reservation and Smart EX. Pricing for the Tokyo to Shin-Osaka segment ranges from approximately 42,100 yen for single occupancy to 60,500 yen for the two-person cabin.
