Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University introduces HoLEP laser technology

Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University (TOGÜ) Hospital has introduced HoLEP (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate) technology to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This advanced surgical method uses Holmium laser energy to perform minimally invasive procedures.

Prof. Dr. Fatih Fırat, a faculty member of the Urology Department, explained that the technique involves using laser energy to separate the enlarged prostate tissue from its surroundings, similar to peeling a fruit. The tissue is then fragmented and removed using specialized systems. The method is noted for minimizing bleeding risks during and after surgery, significantly reducing hospital stays, and allowing patients to return to daily life more quickly.

TOGÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Yılmaz stated that the university continues to invest in technical and physical infrastructure to serve as a strategic health hub for Tokat and its surrounding provinces, ensuring residents have access to advanced diagnostic and treatment options locally.
