Tokat opens new parking lot near University Hospital

Tokat Mayor Mehmet Kemal Yazıcıoğlu has announced the opening of a new open-air parking lot in front of the Faculty of Dentistry to alleviate traffic congestion near the University Hospital. The project was made possible by closing a State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) canal following official negotiations and permissions. To prevent potential flooding, safety measures such as the installation of gratings have been implemented along the former canal route.

The new parking area currently accommodates approximately 175 vehicles, with plans to increase capacity to 200. This addition, combined with a forthcoming 500-vehicle indoor parking facility being constructed by the university, will bring the total regional capacity to approximately 700 vehicles.

In addition to the parking lot, the municipality will implement road and sidewalk improvements at the university entrance. These measures, which include widening sidewalks, renewing asphalt, and installing bollards to prevent roadside parking, aim to ensure faster access for ambulances to the emergency department.
