Tokat revives historical Amin Alayı tradition for young students
The Tokat Governorate and the Tokat Provincial Mufti held the second annual ‘Amin Alayı and Bed-i Besmele’ ceremony, a historical tradition dating back to the Seljuk and Ottoman eras. The event celebrated the start of educational life for children aged 4 to 6 enrolled in Quran courses.
The procession began at the historic Yağıbasan Medresesi and proceeded through Sulusokak to the Alipaşa Mosque, accompanied by a traditional mehteran band. Local officials, including Tokat Governor Abdullah Köklü and Mayor M. Kemal Yazıcıoğlu, participated in the event alongside parents and teachers.
During the ceremony, Governor Köklü emphasized the importance of preserving this cultural heritage to highlight the community's commitment to education. Following the procession, students gathered at the mosque to receive their first lessons and participate in communal prayers.
