Real-world asset tokenization reaches $34 billion as institutions enter

The tokenization of real-world assets (RWA) is transitioning from a pilot phase to significant institutional adoption. As of September, tokenized assets reached a value of $34.18 billion, representing an 85.2% increase since January. This growth is driven by the entry of major asset managers such as BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, and Fidelity, who have contributed billions to bond and money market fund tokens.

Major financial institutions and infrastructure providers are integrating blockchain technology into traditional markets. The DTCC has received SEC non-action letters to offer tokenized assets under its custody, while the New York Stock Exchange is developing a platform for on-chain security trading and instant settlement. Additionally, Nasdaq has partnered with Kraken to design tokenized stock structures.

On the blockchain layer, Arbitrum has become the first network to exceed 7,000 tokenized RWAs, with a distributed value of approximately $1.03 billion. Other protocols like Stellar and Ondo are also seeing increased activity in tokenized funds and stocks. The sector is expanding beyond simple proof-of-concept into functional infrastructure for equities, commodities, and private credit.
