Tokenized Real-World Assets Reach $7.4 B in DeFi, Fueling New Listings
Deposits of tokenized real‑world assets (RWAs) on decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms have more than tripled in a year, climbing from $2.3 billion to $7.4 billion, according to data from CoinShares and Token Terminal. RWAs now account for over a quarter of open interest in on‑chain perpetual futures, with trading volumes for these assets up about 220% year‑on‑year while overall DeFi deposits fell roughly 15%. Roughly 70% of RWA collateral is held on Ethereum‑based lending venues such as Aave and Morpho, with Solana’s Kamino also seeing growth.
In parallel, Binance’s upcoming listing of the token Pepeto is being highlighted as a showcase of the RWA boom. Hyperliquid, a DeFi platform, reported $1 billion in Q2 revenue and a jump in its RWA perpetual‑trading share from 1.8% to 32.2%. The Pepeto presale raised $10.5 million, and the token’s design emphasizes on‑chain demand and deflationary mechanics. Binance is said to be tightening listing criteria to favor projects with strong audit trails and active on‑chain usage, reflecting the broader shift toward tokenized real‑world assets.
