Tokyo doctors recommend heat‑stroke adaptation methods amid soaring temperatures

Emergency transports for heatstroke across Japan have tripled in a week, with Tokyo recording over 100 cases on consecutive days. Dr. Hiroshi Ito of Itoji Kamiyama Clinic attributes the surge to night‑time heat and insufficient acclimatization.

He advises a “heat‑adaptation” routine that includes a protein‑rich diet with milk, regular light exercise, and a specific bathing practice: soaking in 40 °C water to induce sweating, followed by prompt hydration and gradual cooling. Additional tips cover staying hydrated, using stairs, and applying evaporative cooling to indoor surfaces. The guidance aims to help residents build tolerance and reduce heatstroke risk during the extreme summer heat.

The recommendations are part of a broader public‑health push as high humidity and temperatures continue to strain health services nationwide.
