Tokyo Dome City to host interactive horror film art exhibition

The experiential exhibition ‘Re: Horror ni Fureru Ten – The World of Horror Film Art’ is scheduled to be held at Tokyo Dome City Gallery AaMo from September 19 to November 8. Unlike traditional haunted houses, this event focuses on the craftsmanship of horror film production, allowing visitors to see, photograph, and touch the sets.

Directed by veteran art directors from the Japanese film industry, the exhibition features specially designed and recreated sets that would typically be destroyed after filming. The current theme is set in the Showa 50s and 60s (late 1970s to 1980s), creating a nostalgic yet unsettling atmosphere. New content includes designs for a subway entrance and mysterious ruins.

A key feature of the exhibition is the ability to touch and even lift the props. Visitors can discover how materials like concrete, iron, and stone are actually simulated using different substances to meet budget, weight, and processing requirements. The venue also includes a ‘Art Note’ section detailing the behind-the-scenes work of film art professionals. All exhibits are open for photography and video recording.
