Tokyo Dome to host XR tour for historic baseball moments
Canon, Yomiuri Shimbun, and Nippon TV have launched a paid demonstration project called the ‘Tokyo Dome XR Tour’ to provide a new sports viewing experience using extended reality (XR) technology.
Participants can stand on the Tokyo Dome field and use Canon’s ‘MREAL’ mixed reality system to relive historic professional baseball moments at the exact locations where they occurred. The experience utilizes a volumetric video system consisting of 137 cameras that convert entire spaces into 3D data. This allows fans to witness legendary plays, such as Masahiro Tanaka’s 200th career win, from the perspective of the players.
The tour is scheduled to run from September 8 to September 10, 2026. Pricing is set at 6,000 yen for adults and 3,000 yen for children aged 14 and under, with additional options available for a fee. Bookings are being handled through JTB’s leisure ticket website.
