Tokyo Gakugei University launches teacher training program for professionals

Tokyo Gakugei University, in collaboration with Kobe Shinwa University and the NPO Teach For Japan, is recruiting participants for its recurrent education program designed to develop teachers and educational support personnel. The initiative aims to address the shortage of educators in schools by connecting professionals with diverse expertise to the education sector.

Open to individuals regardless of whether they hold a teaching license, the program offers two tracks: a course involving practical field training in elementary schools and an online-only course. Last year, over 50% of graduates successfully transitioned into teaching or educational support roles across Japan, including in Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Miyazaki.

Participants may receive subsidies for enrollment at Kobe Shinwa University's correspondence department, and certain course credits can be applied toward obtaining a teaching license. The program also supports career transitions through temporary or special teaching licenses.
