Tokyo Game Show 2026 preparations involve Sega, NHN PlayArt, and indie developers
The Tokyo Game Show 2026, scheduled for September 17–21 at Makuhari Messe, is seeing extensive preparations from major gaming companies and publishers. Sega plans a large presence with playable demos for titles including Stranger Than Heaven, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, and Persona 4 Revival. The adventure game Stranger Than Heaven, developed by Sega and RGG Studio, recently showcased 12 minutes of gameplay featuring a unique limb-specific combat system and a narrative spanning five decades of Japanese history.
Indie developers are also heavily involved. PLAYISM will host an online preview event on September 10 to showcase 11 titles, while INDIE Live Expo has opened submissions for its December 2026 showcase and will host a booth at TGS. Other notable exhibitors include NHN PlayArt, returning after eight years with seven titles, and Toei Games, making its debut with three immersive titles. Additionally, Dynamic Map Platform will demonstrate how high-precision 3D spatial data can be utilized in game development, and a consortium of five font companies, including Morisawa and DynaComware, will collaborate on a special promotion regarding the role of typography in gaming.
