Tokyo Heat‑Mitigation Expo Showcases Wearable Cooling Tech

From July 15‑17 2026, Tokyo Big Sight hosted the 12th Mousho Taisaku‑ten (Heat‑Mitigation Expo), drawing large crowds despite daily temperatures above 30 °C and a peak of 34.3 °C. Exhibitors displayed a range of technologies aimed at combating Japan’s worsening summer heat.

Sony presented its latest wearable cooler, the REON POCKET 6, a thin neck‑mounted device that cools the body surface by up to ‑2 °C for about 5.5 hours and also offers a warm‑mode. Sharp demonstrated an “ice‑slurry refrigerator” that converts ordinary PET bottles into frozen slush drinks, providing rapid internal cooling. Other highlights included a front‑arm water‑immersion cooling system, “hamon band” wrist‑worn health monitors, and various air‑conditioning garments for outdoor workers.

The expo underscored the growing demand for innovative heat‑stroke prevention tools as Japan’s summer temperatures reach record highs year after year.
