Tokyo Legacy Half Marathon 2026 launches inclusive ‘cheer back’ bib art initiative

Tokyo Building Co., the Tokyo Marathon Foundation and creative studio Heralbonny announced an art‑driven “cheer back” bib project for the Tokyo Legacy Half Marathon 2026. The half‑marathon, scheduled for 18 October 2026 at MUFG Stadium (National Stadium) in Tokyo, will host up to 18,000 runners of all abilities. A specially designed rear‑bib, featuring artwork by artist Tokinaga Somí, will be sold for ¥880, with part of the proceeds returned to the artist and donated to support athletics programmes for people with disabilities.

The initiative aims to reshape perceptions of disability, promote inclusive sport and generate cultural dialogue through the combination of running and visual art. Organisers say the project reflects a broader mission to build a society where everyone can express themselves and move freely, regardless of ability.
