Tokyo marks five years of Paralympic legacy with accessibility inspections

To mark the fifth anniversary of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government hosted events and inspections to evaluate the progress of the Games' legacy. Andrew Parsons, President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), conducted site visits to locations including Ariake Arena, special needs schools, and railway stations to observe advancements in barrier-free infrastructure and information accessibility.

President Parsons noted that Tokyo has become an even more inclusive city since hosting the Games, describing the Tokyo 2020 legacy as a “blueprint for future host cities.” He credited the progress to the cooperation between the Organizing Committee and public authorities.

A commemorative special stage was also held at the Tokyo International Forum, featuring IPC Special Goodwill Ambassadors and Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike. The event highlighted how the Paralympic movement has integrated into daily life through improved universal design and the continued use of sporting venues for community activities.
