Japan companies report multiple data breaches via unauthorized access

Multiple Japanese companies have reported unauthorized access to their systems, leading to potential leaks of personal information.

Tokyo Metro announced that approximately 59,000 email addresses of its Metpo loyalty program members may have been viewed or acquired by a third party, likely originating from overseas. The breach was discovered following a service malfunction on September 20. The affected server contained only email addresses that had been flagged as undeliverable.

Japan Post has suspended its international mail inquiry web service after discovering potential unauthorized access to its servers. The cause and extent of the impact are currently under investigation.

Nippon Rent-A-Car reported that 41 members may have had their information compromised, including names, phone numbers, and potentially driver's license details and credit card numbers. Separately, the car-sharing service Times Car experienced a breach affecting approximately 6.6 million accounts, involving names, addresses, and driver's license information.

Seicomart disclosed that approximately 570,000 club member accounts may have been affected by unauthorized access to its app servers. Potential leaked data includes names, gender, dates of birth, addresses, and phone numbers, though the company stated that passwords and credit card information were not compromised.
