Tokyo Metro to test floor projections to manage station congestion
Tokyo Metro, in collaboration with Sharp and Lester, will begin a demonstration project at Kita-Senju Station on the Chiyoda Line starting September 9. The initiative aims to alleviate train congestion by projecting visual guidance onto station floors.
Using Sharp’s ‘Omject’ projection technology, the system will direct passengers toward less crowded train cars. This follows an existing system implemented in December 2024 that displays real-time congestion data for each car on station concourse displays. The new trial will specifically test how the timing and placement of floor projections influence passenger movement and behavior.
