Tokyo police recover 161 CHARGESPOT power banks from Kanda River

Authorities in Tokyo have recovered 161 strange blue and white objects from the Kanda River in the Nakano District. Following reports from local residents, police and district officials conducted a recovery operation on August 21.

Investigation revealed that all 161 items were CHARGESPOT portable power banks, a rental service operated by the company Inforich. The devices, which are commonly found in stations and convenience stores across Japan, were found scattered along the riverbed and floating in the water.

Inforich confirmed they were aware of the situation via social media and are cooperating with police. Because each device contains a unique management code, the company is able to track rental histories and usage locations to assist in the investigation.
